Together, we can make a difference. Safety is a key priority for Scion and we are committed to continually improving the equipment and processes we have in place to ensure our workers get home safely every day.

We make sure that our communication systems are frequently audited and properly used as we recognise how important effective communication is in keeping a safe workplace.

We understand the importance of limiting manual handling and repetitive lifting, hence our implementation of handsfree rod handlers, locating solids controls units on vehicles and implementing methods to ensure employees and client representatives return home safely and in good health after every single shift.

In addition, we undertake daily inspections of equipment, review and improve our safety policies surrounding height safety and extensive ongoing staff training. Our equipment is always kept in the best condition and is defect-free.

Additionally, we have put into place a thorough Safety Management Programme. This programme includes tools that are simple for our personnel to comprehend and use, such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs). Our Safety Management Programme is constantly audited to guarantee its efficacy and enables the addition of site-specific documents, if necessary.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

Operating track-based Diamond rigs and RC rigs with small footprint enables SCION to reduce our impact on the environment. These rigs are mobile and easy to control, which means required pad sizes are reduced and our carbon footprint is smaller.

We work hard to limit noise, maintain dust suppression (with active water suppression on our RC rig) and vibrations throughout our operations.

Our diamond drilling operations employ the best-in-class Paramount Portable Centrifuge System. This system allows us to operate a “Closed Loop” simply meaning drilling fluids flow from mixing tank to drill string to our centrifuge system and back again without water discharge or sump requirements.

The system comprises a hydraulic motor-driven centrifuge assembly, diesel power unit, control panel, two hydraulic-driven impeller-style fluid pumps, and a 1,135 L (300 gal) holding tank.

The hydraulic-driven impeller pump transfers drilling fluid from the drill collar to the centrifuge’s inlet. Centrifugal force and an internal auger separate and discharge drill cutting solids while distributing cleaned drilling fluid to the holding tank.

The ‘cleaned’ fluid is then pumped from the holding tank and ‘recycled’ back to the drill’s existing mud tank for reuse. Thereby limiting the need for extensive mud mixing tanks or sumps, reducing our environmental impact, and reducing overall drill costs to Clients.

Our systems are mounted on trailers to minimise lifting, maximise efficiencies when setting up on new holes and maintaining a safe and visually appealing work environment.
